Sumitomo Chemical to raise ammonium nitrate prices by 30 yen/kg from July 1
Release Time: 2026-07-02Source: ChemNet

On June 26, 2026, Sumitomo Chemical, a leading Japanese chemical company, officially issued a product price adjustment notice, deciding to raise the sales price of ammonium nitrate products effective from July 1, 2026, with an adjustment of 30 JPY/kg. All orders will be executed based on the latest quotation according to the new shipment time.

This product price adjustment is primarily driven by the continuous rise in upstream raw material prices, which has significantly increased corporate production costs. Although the company has compressed various expenditures through internal refined operations, it is increasingly difficult to fully absorb the continuously rising raw material costs. This price adjustment is a market-oriented pricing correction measure for the company to hedge against cost pressure and maintain reasonable profit levels, as well as a necessary means to ensure a stable product supply.

From the perspective of the industry environment, the timing of Sumitomo Chemical's price adjustment aligns with the overall trend of the current Asian ammonium nitrate market. As a core raw material for agricultural nitrogen fertilizers and mining industrial explosives, this price increase is expected to transmit downstream to sectors such as agricultural planting and mining, directly lifting the production and operation costs of related industries. The profit margins of downstream manufacturing, agricultural inputs, and industrial and mining enterprises may face some compression.

As one of the world's core manufacturers of ammonium nitrate, Sumitomo Chemical's pricing strategy holds strong significance as an industry bellwether for chemical trade flows, raw material supply and demand patterns, and commodity market stability in the Asia-Pacific region. Industry insiders suggest that various downstream procurement enterprises timely track the market chain reactions brought about by this price adjustment, optimize existing inventory planning in combination with their own production consumption rhythms, and reasonably adjust medium-to-long-term procurement and stocking strategies to hedge against operational risks arising from rising raw material prices.
