Vietnam's vegetable export revenue is forecast to reach about 1-1.5 billion U.S. dollars by 2030, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported Monday, citing a project recently approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the project, Vietnam's vegetable production is set at 23-24 million tons with about 1-1.3 million tons designated for processing.

Vietnam will develop safe and concentrated vegetable growing areas with clear origins in order to meet domestic and export demand, contributing to national food security, food safety and hygiene, and improving community health, VNA reported.

By 2030, the national vegetable cultivation will cover an area of some 1.2-1.3 million hectares. Around 360,000-400,000 hectares will be dedicated to safe and concentrated vegetable production.

Among this, roughly 50,000-60,000 hectares are projected for processed vegetables, including tomato, cucumber, chilli, potato, and leafy greens.

According to the ministry, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export revenue hit over 4.9 billion dollars in the first 10 months of this year, while the revenue for the whole year is predicted to surpass 5 billion dollars.
